Adhar, An Association of Parents of Special Adults, serves as a permanent home for intellectually challenged individuals. It came into being to address the pressing concern shared by all parents of special children: “Who will care for our children when we are no longer around?”
Late Mr. M. G. Gore, a renowned social worker with over 35 years of experience at the Children’s Aid Society, deeply empathized with the struggles faced by these parents. In 1990, he united 25-30 parents of special adults to bring to life a visionary concept—a lifelong home and rehabilitation center for intellectually challenged adults.
Adhar operates with a strong spirit of trusteeship and is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees. Currently, we provide lifelong care, training, and rehabilitation to over 350 special adults across three centers located in Badlapur, Nashik, and Satara. This comprehensive support is delivered by a skilled multidisciplinary team comprising psychologists, psychiatrists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, medical officers, social workers, special educators, caregivers, and administrative staff.
Our organization is entirely sustained through contributions from parents and generous donations, as we do not receive any government grants or aid. Since its inception, Adhar has been committed to supporting families by offering financial subsidies based on their economic conditions; ensuring care and rehabilitation is accessible to all in need.
