The stigma that surrounds mental health makes the life of special children & their parents even more difficult. Especially as they age, securing a guardian for them becomes an impossible task. In the year 1990, few such parents came together to find a permanent solution to their common concern “who will take care of them after us?” Adhar, an association of parents of intellectually disabled children, was founded under the leadership of Late Mr. M. G. Gore, to address this issue. At present, Adhar has three branches in Maharashtra, located in Badlapur, Nashik & Satara and have also built an old-age home for their ageing parents at Nashik.
