Us Consul Delegation
The 25-year young Adhar has become quite a shining example for other NGOs in India. Adhar, which was established in 1994, has today blossomed into a strong organization that is home to 325+ Specially abled adults, with 250+ trained & well-experienced staff that’s guided by a stellar board of trustees. Adhar is a name to reckon with, not only in the national NGO scenario but also in the international arena. Celebrating Silver Jubilee is one
of the better ways to put forth your experience and credibility without sounding pompous and preachy.
Adhar entered its Silver Jubilee year in January 2018. This year has been quite an eventful year for Adhar. Thus, completing a year, indeed calls for a grand anniversary celebration, as it is a chance to thank the people who have contributed to achieving this milestone. One shouldn’t really miss such an excellent opportunity to remind and revise the purpose, and the vision of the NGO. Also, it gives one a chance to reminisce on the good memories, starting right from the inception to the current status.
Prior to the official anniversary party that took place in the evening, the day started with the visit of the esteemed delegation from the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai.
The Consul general of USA in Mumbai, Mr. Edgard D. Kagan paid his first-ever visit to the NGO in Mumbai Suburban zone at Badlapur on Thursday 17′” January 2019. He was accompanied by the Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Benjamin East & Vice Consul for Political Affairs M r. Robert Poulson – House. They received a warm welcome from Mr. Vishwas Gore – Chairman of Adhar, other Trustees, and our very own Specially abled adults who presented a wonderfully colorful display, organizing the traditional Indian welcome. All guests were welcomed, following the Indian rituals, which made the ambiance even more pleasing. This visit was organized on the special occasion of completing 25 glorious years of our success journey.
In the course of the opening discussion with Mr. Gore & Other Trustees, Mr. Edgard heard about the unmatched work & milestones that Adhar has been achieving over the last 25 years. During the discussion, the Consul General interacted with other delegates and discussed ways and means to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the US Consulate Office in Mumbai & Adhar. A way forward plan, covering the political, economic, commercial, and domain knowledge exchanges was also discussed. In this manner, Mr. Edgard learned about Adhar’s role in this unique domain of Intellectual disability.
The Consul General, Mr. Benjamin, and the Vice Consul for Political affairs Mr. Robert were then invited to plant a tree & make a visit to the various facilities at Adhar, escorted by Mr. Vishwas Gore. The delegation also spent a considerable amount of time with the specially-abled adults & their parents at the Entertainment Centre. Surprisingly, the delegation also participated in the dances performed by the children.
After the visit, Mr. Edgard had an hour-long meeting with Mr. Vishwas Gore. During his interactions, Mr. Edgard stressed the need for an NGO like Adhar that continues to work towards its goal, with unmatched zeal and an unequaled passion. In addition to the official meetings with Mr. Gore, the delegation also met the Trustees and the Parents of the Especially abled adults.
The Consul General extended an invitation to Mr. Vishwas Gore to visit his office and also discussed the possibilities of working together on:
- Obtaining Foreign Investment License for an NGO like Adhar
- Exploring the possibility of exchange programs
- Arranging Roundtable Meetings with Amazon & Facebook senior management executives for possible collaborations to feature Adhar under charity organizations. This is to make Adhar made products available on the e-Com platforms & seek donations through special fundraising programs on the various social media platforms
- Making Adhar Product Basket available for their Mumbai office for gifting purposes. The US Consul Office in Mumbai will source product baskets at suitable prices from Adhar and will then gift them to all the VIP guests visiting their office. This will also help to spread the word about Adhar amongst the niche audience, thereby bringing about a surge in awareness about such work modules.
It was a pleasure to interact with the people at Adhar. The engaging and healthy environment there compelled me to think about new innovative options for meeting such kind of special needs. To see such good and significant work going on at Adhar was truly inspirational. It’s quite visible that Adhar does absolutely incredible work. This function module is replicable, but not without Adhar”. said the Consul General.
